Building a quieter office with Knauf plasterboard

Building a quieter office with Knauf plasterboard

Creating a quieter environment for your employees is important as it can boost productivity and overall morale in the workplace. One of the leading causes of workplace discontent is the interruption of unwelcome sound. There are a few ways to design a quieter office space for your employees using Knauf plasterboard panels for walls and ceilings.

Use Knauf Danolines Tectopanel or angled walls

Most offices have an open-plan design, which is good for the interaction between employees but it contributes to sound travelling across the office. This makes it difficult for employees to have privacy or peace when they need it – especially during phone calls and times of concentration.

By adding angled walls inside your office – particularly opposed plasterboard facades, windows and other hard reflecting surfaces – you can create smaller spaces that will decrease noise. Angling the walls by at least six degrees will prevent sound from being reflected directly back. This will help sound diffuse off the ceiling and reduce the overall noise level.

Install sound absorbers in the office

While Knauf plasterboard panels and acoustic ceilings have sound-absorbing properties, you may need to install additional components. Gypsum board is highly efficient at limiting noise emissions in the workplace. Knauf Ceiling solutions, mineral and glass fibre are effective sound absorbers that will help to capture, trap, and dissipate noise. They are lightweight, porous, and easy to install on the walls and ceilings.

Place plasterboard screens

In larger offices, place plasterboard panels in a grid-like pattern to create small screens or cubicles between desks. This will help to diffuse sound and keep noise at a minimal level. Some jobs require constant conversations over the phone; with cubicles or screens, employees’ calls will be private and with minimal disruptions to the conversation.

Plasterboard can dampen background sounds

Sound masking with plasterboard panels will also help to dampen any irritating sounds of creaky floorboards, clicking keyboards and other background noises – even when no employees are talking. This can also be achieved by incorporating natural elements into the office space, like a water feature, which will not only create a calming effect but it will also drown out irritating noise.

Fewer distractions in the office lead to high productivity for employees. These tips highlight a few ways in which Knauf plasterboard can be used to absorb noise in the workplace. If you need more information about Knauf plasterboards, then contact us today to speak to one of our experts.
